Avant Garde is a student-led publication, envisioned as an extension of our campus community’s need to bridge differences, and to spark refreshing discussions. What distinguishes Avant Garde from other student publications is that we hope to introduce students of different disciplines to experimental ideas and narratives through writing. The initiative’s purpose for becoming a student publication is very much in line with the mission of the Office of Student Engagement. We hope, through our writings, to engage in the development of the student body’s relationship with education, highlight the cultural manifestations in daily life, and on campus. Our liberal arts education is fruitful as it allows students of different disciplines to engage in dialogue in classrooms. However, we feel that our publication would further stimulate these discussions. Avant Garde aims to bring together the material of the classroom with informal methods of communication. Through our accessible thinkpieces, and social media presence, we aim to familiarize the student body with the manifestation of critical theory, art, and literature in their daily lives, and to give them space to experiment with their own thought-provoking ideas. As a student publication, Avant Garde would encourage the student body to participate in an environment whose initial aim is to constantly address knowledge production, allow for dialogue along a wide spectrum of experiences, and provide a platform for analytical and curious voices. Avant Garde will also seek to publish three issues per semester.

The Biology Association’s mission is to serve the undergraduate Biology students by supporting the educational mission of the Department of Biology, enabling Biology students to advance on the academic, intellectual, and professional levels. The association aspires to focus on the psychological side of the students by offering them different social and entertainment events to relieve academic stress. In addition, the association is open to all students that are interested in Biology.
