Avant Garde is a student-led publication, envisioned as an extension of our campus community’s need to bridge differences, and to spark refreshing discussions. What distinguishes Avant Garde from other student publications is that we hope to introduce students of different disciplines to experimental ideas and narratives through writing. The initiative’s purpose for becoming a student publication is very much in line with the mission of the Office of Student Engagement. We hope, through our writings, to engage in the development of the student body’s relationship with education, highlight the cultural manifestations in daily life, and on campus. Our liberal arts education is fruitful as it allows students of different disciplines to engage in dialogue in classrooms. However, we feel that our publication would further stimulate these discussions. Avant Garde aims to bring together the material of the classroom with informal methods of communication. Through our accessible thinkpieces, and social media presence, we aim to familiarize the student body with the manifestation of critical theory, art, and literature in their daily lives, and to give them space to experiment with their own thought-provoking ideas. As a student publication, Avant Garde would encourage the student body to participate in an environment whose initial aim is to constantly address knowledge production, allow for dialogue along a wide spectrum of experiences, and provide a platform for analytical and curious voices. Avant Garde will also seek to publish three issues per semester.

Musicana incubates such talents fully producing original music videos for them, provide performances for them on-campus whether in mega events or regular events and in external venues. Student Court is the student judiciary authority. It consists of nine students. The Student Court makes sure that the SU members and club officers are committed to fulfilling their responsibilities in a transparent and competent manner. The Student Court is also responsible for monitoring the presidential elections, so as to ensure an objective and impartial electoral process. They make sure that there is a balance of power between all student government bodies. On an individual level, the Student Court mediates on student-student conflicts by acting as a peer mediator and tries to resolve the situation. The Student Court is represented in the Student Disciplinary Committee, which addresses students’ misconduct, both in and out of class. The Student Court works in conjunction with the Academic Integrity Committee in order to enforce the University Code of Ethics.

The Student Leadership Institute provides select AUC students with leadership training to enable them to pursue positions of influence in student organizations.

* Leadership Program: Enrolled students receive 30 hours of training in leadership theory and skills. The course runs on Tuesday afternoons. In Spring 2019, 25 students successfully completed the course and received certification. In Fall 2019, 40 students successfully completed the course and received certification. Facilitators of the program have included Kevin O’Connell from the School of Business and Fikry Boutros from the Academy of Liberal Arts.

* Mentoring: The graduates of the SLI continues to serve as mentors to the new cohorts to share their experience as AUC student leaders.

The Center for Student Well-Being (CSW) works to help students develop resiliency to enable them to cope with challenges on the emotional, behavioral, or cognitive levels. It also works to raise awareness among the AUC community about the types of challenges and disabilities that a percentage of our student body deal with so that they better understand and empathize with students experiencing difficulties and receiving care. Finally, the CSW provides targeted outreach messages of well-being to the AUC community, guiding them on holistic healthful lifestyles and coping mechanisms.

Our aim is to raise awareness of Egypt's most pressing environmental issues and combine this with active engagement of students to help minimize their waste, energy usage and carbon footprint. Although the Gaia Movement works primarily with the AUC community, its scope is not limited to it. Rather, it aims to encompass Egyptian society at large and to engage both groups with the cause of sustainability. As the continual progression of our current climate crisis unfolds, Egypt has increasingly become a major stakeholder. Therefore, our club hopes to foster a platform whereby critical conversation regarding personal consumption and dietary habits would help Egyptians consume more consciously and sustainably.

Mission
The Literature Club is a voluntary student-led association. It aims at bringing together AUC undergraduates, graduates, and auditors of all majors and programs who are interested in literature and spreads the love of the literary word among the AUC student body by breaking the stereotypical image of literature as boring. We are also targeting non-AUCians through our future “open-to-everyone” and “Meet an idol” events.

Through the new Arabic Literature Committee, the club is aiming to introduce AUC students to contemporary Arabic authors from the MENA region and to bring together students interested in the Arabic language and literature through reading and discussing literary works.
