Springboarding Patterns: From Historic Cairo to Contemporary Design

The Patterns of Cairo online database is an open-access platform documenting more than 200 decorative designs from Historic Cairo. It features downloadable digitized drawings, geometric analyses and pattern biographies, alongside narratives exploring the intangible patterns of craft, migration and development.

This talk explores how historic pattern ideation and craft practices can serve as effective springboards for today’s creative fields.
