The School of Sciences and Engineering (SSE) at The American University in Cairo invites you to an insightful talk titled "Climate Change and the Future of Offshore Wind Energy: Building Resilient Renewable Energy Systems." This session features Dr. Sara Abdelaziz, Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellow and Research Fellow at CRASSH, University of Cambridge, who will explore critical insights into climate change resilience and the evolving role of offshore wind energy systems.

Dr.
Dr. Sara Abdelaziz is a Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellow and a Research Fellow at the Centre for Research in the Arts, Social Sciences and Humanities (CRASSH), University of Cambridge. She is an interdisciplinary researcher whose work bridges climate science, renewable energy systems, artificial intelligence, and infrastructure resilience to support evidence-based decision-making for climate adaptation and the global energy transition. She recently completed her DPhil in Engineering Science at the University of Oxford, where her research investigated the impacts of climate change on offshore wind energy and developed climate-informed methodologies for renewable energy planning to support resilient, net-zero energy systems. At CRASSH, her current research explores the intersection of climate risk, AI, and policy, with a particular focus on translating scientific evidence into practical solutions for climate resilience and sustainable development. Her expertise spans climate and energy analytics, renewable energy systems, extreme weather hazards, machine learning, optimization, geospatial modeling, and climate risk assessment. She has also worked with EDF UK, contributing to climate-risk assessments for critical energy infrastructure and supporting long-term resilience planning. Prior to her doctoral studies, Dr. Abdelaziz earned both a Diploma and an MSc in Engineering Mathematics from Ain Shams University, Egypt. She brings more than eight years of experience across academia and industry, having held academic positions at the British University in Egypt and the Arab Open University, alongside engineering roles at Motorola and Redcon Construction Company. As a recipient of the prestigious Schlumberger Faculty for the Future Fellowship, Dr. Abdelaziz is committed to advancing women in STEM and developing innovative, data-driven solutions that strengthen climate resilience, accelerate the clean energy transition, and inform policy and investment decisions worldwide.
