Join Monika Raič, postdoctoral researcher at Humboldt University in Berlin, for a talk that reexamines Gustave Flaubert’s Egyptian sojourn—not as a simple case of Orientalism, but as an expression of a transhistorical cosmopolitan sensibility. Raič will offer a fresh rereading of Flaubert’s 1849–50 Carnets de Voyage, revealing new dimensions of his encounter with Egypt and the broader world.
