Program:

Day 1

Part 1: Career Reflections
Vincent van de Wijngaard looks back on over thirty years of documentary and fashion photography. He’ll elaborate on:
    •    The pragmatic mindset that keeps shoots efficient and focused
    •    Meticulous techniques for planning and executing each frame
    •    How personal narrative infuses meaning into every image

Part 2: Building a Coherent Portfolio
Learn to craft a portfolio that speaks directly to potential clients. Topics include:
    •    Sequencing Photographs: Picking an order that builds rhythm, tension, and clarity
    •    Reflecting Your Vision: Selecting images that consistently convey your unique style
    •    Presentation Prep: Best practices for both digital layouts and printed prints, from resolution to mounting

Day 2

Part 1: Portfolio Reconstruction
Each participant reconstructs (or builds anew) a portfolio of 25–30 photographs. Requirements:
    •    Bring small prints of every image you wish to include, plus a broader selection for discussion
    •    Present your finalized portfolio to the group and receive direct feedback

Part 2: The 5‑Minute Passion Talk
Every attendee prepares and delivers a short (max 5 minutes) presentation on any topic presentation on any topic (could be unrelated to photography) that they’re passionate about

Part 3: Story Proposals & Idea Generation
Discover methods for brainstorming and structuring concise story proposals:
    •    Creative prompts and brainstorming techniques
    •    Outlining a clear, compelling proposal
    •    Final Q&A: Vincent addresses any lingering questions about portfolio building, storytelling or technical practice

Requirements:
Participants are required to bring small prints of every image they wish to include in their 25–30–image portfolio. 

**The masterclass is offered as part of the Cairo Photo Week program, which will be held in Downtown Cairo from May 8 to May 18, 2025.
