Join our captivating photo-based workshop led by Filmmaker and Lecturer Marouan Omara, and elevate your creative narrative skills. This hands-on workshop invites participants to explore the cinematic potential of still images, crafting compelling short films through the unique medium of photography.
Whether you're a filmmaker, a visual artist, or simply curious about new storytelling techniques, this workshop is designed for you. You don't need a professional camera—just your phone, an idea and your creative spark!
What You’ll Learn:
- How to use photos as a base for cinematic storytelling
- Visual sequencing, sound design, and rhythm in photo-based films
- Blending archives, personal imagery, or found visuals into short film narratives
- Collaborative creation and hands-on editing
Workshop Format: This is a 3-day, in-person workshop focused on practical learning and group collaboration. You’ll work with others, engage in real-time feedback, and finalize your project during the workshop sessions
Workshop duration: 3 days
Participant Requirements:
- A short film idea (1–3 minutes)
- At least one photo (or more) that you wish to base your film on. These can be: Personal archive, Found archive, Internet-sourced, Magazine scans, or AI-generated visuals.
- A smartphone (or any device with a camera) to shoot additional material if needed
- A laptop for editing and compiling your material
- Full commitment to the 3-day workshop and willingness to work in teams

**The workshop is offered as part of the Cairo Photo Week program, which will be held in Downtown Cairo from May 8 to May 18, 2025.
