How did science shape the interactions between empire and Islam across Eurasia? Join Patrick Anthony, Marie Skłodowska-Curie Postdoctoral Fellow at Uppsala University, as he explores the fate of south Caucasian borderlands in the nineteenth century. Russian Imperial occupation there drew new lines on the land and between peoples, “unmixing” multi-ethnic communities. Against that legacy, this talk traces the entanglement of European and Islamic sciences to question global processes of state power and frontier enclosure.
