Medfest Fifth Edition – 'Stigma"

Medfest Egypt is a touring international short films forum, which is the first of its kind in the MENA region, merging the filmmaking, arts, development sector, and the health worlds through a unique cinematic experience.

Medfest Egypt was founded in 2017, screening a selection of high-quality/award-winning films raising questions about their social shadows, followed by workshops and discussions with a selected panel of experts from the filmmaking and healthcare worlds.

Stigma is this year's edition topic, and it discusses how stigma may negatively affect people's well-being physically and/or mentally.

Medfest Eg aims to impact the art, health and cultural sectors in a completely new and creative way by raising public awareness of the nature of specific health topics, stigmas, social topics and conditions, as well as workshops and panel discussions on such topics in order to connect different sectors and provide networking opportunities.

Films:
Earlier in the year, Medfest Egypt had an open call for short film submissions that shed light on stigma; around 300 films were received from all around the world. A committee of strong film programmers screened these films for the reason of having the top-selected films screened throughout the program of the forum. The winning film(s) will be announced on the closing night of the forum on Sunday, September 17

Photography Competition & on-ground exhibition:

MedFest EG is running a photography competition collaborating with Photopia to explore "Stigma" through your lens. Top running photographs will be creatively exhibited on-ground during the forum for four days, and the winning photos will be announced during the closing ceremony of the fifth edition on Sunday, September 17

Honorary Awards

MedFest EG is glad to announce honorary awards to:

Sawsan Badr
Honoring the renowned star in recognition of her distinctive artistic career throughout the years during its 5th edition that will take place from Thursday, September 14 to Sunday, September 17. Badr has led a long and diverse career between Cinema, Theatre, and TV, enabling her to be admired and respected by the audience and helped shape the waves of change and perception of important societal topics.

Dr. Nabil Elkot
Dr. Elkot is an esteemed psychological consultant with more than 30 years of experience in psychiatry and 20 years of work as a psychological counselor with valuable contributions in the Film industry enabling the presentation of mental health in a non-stereotypical way.
