The Nordics, with Sweden taking the lead, has for three decades built a robust innovation ecosystem for startups and investors that have brought unicorns such as Spotify, Minecraft and Klarna. It represents 7% of global billion-dollar tech exits, though the Nordic countries only have about 2% of global GDP.

In the last 10 years, the 25 million people region has also advanced in startups with sustainable solutions and impact investing. Today 26% of all venture capital in the Nordics has a mandate for impact, mainly deployed by business angels, family offices and VC funds, but also by governmental investment bodies that supply a mix of blended finance in grants, debt and equity.

Since 2016, Richard Georg Engström and his team have assessed 7,000+ Nordic impact startups and matched hundreds of them with international venture capital with the intention to have a social, environmental and climate-positive effect and a financial return.

Sustainability is complex. Telling great green stories is not enough. Startups and investors need to make sustainable impact decisions based on evidence. In 2020 they developed the Impact Business Modeling System™ to help startups make their sustainable impact measurable, operational and profitable. It is an easy-to-use and logical framework and tools, standing on the shoulders of design thinking and lean startup methodology. IBMS is used by incubators, accelerators, venture capital funds and other investors to ensure that the startups they invest in deliver the necessary measurable impact resulting from a profitable business.

Join our session to get an introduction to Impact Business Modeling System™ through some practical impact business cases.
