Talk Series: Creative Writing in English 2
Poetry Reading and Conversation with Sara Elkamel


In the second edition of our new talk series Creative Writing in English, Sara Elkamel will read from her award-winning poetry and discuss with Tahrir Cultural Center Director Tarek Atia what it means to be a poet in the modern world.


About the Author: 

Sara Elkamel is a journalist and award-winning poet. Her publications include the poetry chapbook Field of No Justice (APBF & Akashic Books, 2021), and a translated selection of poems by Mona Kareem, I Will Not Fold These Maps (Poetry Translation Centre, 2023). Elkamel holds a Master of Arts in Journalism and Mass Communication from the American University in Cairo, a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry from New York University and a Master of Cultural Journalism from Columbia University.


The Creative Writing in English Talk Series is organized in Collaboration with the Department of English and Comparative Literature and the AUC Student Literature Club

Sara is the author of the poetry chapbook Field of No Justice and the translator of the forthcoming I Will Not Fold These Maps. She holds a Master of Fine Arts in Poetry from New York University and a Master of Cultural Journalism from Columbia University.



Some of her work, includes:


  • Poetry chapbook "Field of No Justice" (published in 2021 by the African Poetry Book Fund & Akashic Books)

  • The translation of  "I Will Not Fold These Maps", a book of poems by Mona Kareem, (coming out May 11th, from The Poetry Translation Centre, UK). 

  • A Book of Writing & Drawing prompts, Co- written in collaboration with two other artists.
