The Center for Migration and Refugee Studies at The American University in Cairo invites you to an engaging lecture on: Revisiting the Local Turn in Migration and Diversity Governance.
In this seminar, Professor Ricard Zapata-Barrero will explore the concept of the "local turn" in migration and diversity governance, placing it within broader debates on multilevel governance and policy complexity. He will discuss the role of local actors in shaping governance at different levels, address emerging critiques like the rise of national populism and re-nationalization trends and highlight new research directions, including urban resilience, rural migration governance and city networks. The seminar will also reflect on why the local turn remains a crucial framework for understanding contemporary migration governance amid increasing multilevel contestation.
