Join us for an illuminating lecture as Egyptologist Inês Torres unveils new insights from the previously unpublished Fifth Dynasty mastaba of Akhmerutnisut (G 2184) in Giza’s Western Cemetery. Drawing on firsthand research from the Mastaba of Akhmerutnisut Documentation Project (MAD-P), the speaker will shed light on a pivotal moment in the history of the Giza Necropolis, just after it ceased to function as a royal burial ground.

Through a close analysis of the tomb’s architecture and decoration, and by presenting MAD-P’s most recent on-site findings, the lecture highlights the critical importance of revisiting privately owned tombs excavated in earlier periods. The speaker’s work demonstrates how even the smallest archaeological details can reshape long-held interpretations of the Giza funerary landscape and deepen our understanding of Old Kingdom burial practices in the Fifth and Sixth Dynasties.
