Join us for a talk by Professor Sherif Sedky, from AUC’s Department of Physics and former CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, as he explores the global evolution of space technology and Egypt’s growing role in this dynamic field.

Sherif Sedky

Sherif Sedky has 33 years of regional and international experience in international academic institutions in the Middle East, Europe and the United States. Dr. Sedky published over 100 international referred journal and conference articles and holds 19 patents on the design and fabrication of miniaturized sensors and inertial systems. Dr. Sedky built a state-of-the-art research facility including the first clean room in Egypt and the region, which enabled building a solid microfabrication foundation in Egypt in advanced technologies. Over the past 13 years, Dr. Sedky served on top senior executive management positions, including Provost of AUC, where he dealt with a large body of multi-national faculty, students, and staff. In August 2022, President Sisi issued a presidential decree for appointing Dr Sedky as the Chief Executive Officer of the Egyptian Space Agency. In June 2024 he was elected as the Chair of the United Nations Committee for Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UNCOPUOS), and in November 2023 he was elected as the Chair of the Arab Space Cooperation Group. Dr. Sedky is a recipient of the Abdul Hameed Shoman Prize in 2014, and the 2007 Excellence in research and creative endeavors award offered by The American University in Cairo. He is also a recipient of the Egyptian state merit award in advanced technological sciences in 2002, and the graduate studies award from Cairo University in 1996.
