The talk is an invitation to have an open discussion about two important questions: “Can linguistic analysis help improve the legal process?” and “Is linguistic training important to consider in the legal field?”. To discuss these questions, the talk is divided into three parts. First, I will introduce what is meant by Forensic Linguistics, how the field started and its modern-day challenges. We will, then, discuss some of the famous research carried out in the fields of legal statutes, police cautions and Miranda rights, authorship analysis, police interrogations, and courtroom discourse. Finally, we will examine what it means to be an expert witness and whether Forensic Linguistics can help us improve legal justice, especially in the Egyptian context.
