Join us for a special event with Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub in celebration of the release of the paperback edition of his authorized biography, A Surgeon and a Maverick: The Life and Pioneering Work of Magdi Yacoub. Yacoub’s life is one of triumph and tragedy, success and failure, fierce criticism and high praise; it is also an enthralling journey through the worlds of scientific research and medical politics, and ethics at the highest levels.

Prof Sir Magdi Yacoub will be in conversation with Ahmed Elghandour '16, founder and host of the hit YouTube show El Daheeh. The discussion will be held in English.

Open to the public (pre-event registration is required).

Since space is limited, we encourage early arrival, as seating will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration doesn't guarantee a seat. A valid photo ID is required at the entrance.

Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub

Professor Sir Magdi Yacoub is a world-renowned cardiac surgeon. He is currently a professor of cardiothoracic surgery at the National Heart and Lung Institute at Imperial College London and the founder of the Magdi Yacoub Institute, Chain of Hope, and the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, which established the Aswan Heart Center and the Magdi Yacoub Global Heart Center, set to open soon in Giza. Born in Egypt and trained in London and Chicago, he founded the world’s largest heart and lung transplant program at Harefield Hospital. His research spans tissue engineering and myocardial regeneration.



His achievements have earned him numerous distinguished honors, including a British knighthood in 1991 for his groundbreaking medical contributions and life-saving work, the Grand Order of the Nile in 2011—the highest honor of the Arab Republic of Egypt—and the Order of Merit from Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 2014

Ahmed Elghandour ‘16 is the founder and host of the YouTube hit show El Daheeh, the most popular science show in the Middle East, with over 500 videos that have garnered more than 2.5 billion views, making him one of the most influential 30 under 30 in the region, according to Forbes. Elghandour graduated with a bachelor's degree in biology from the American University in Cairo in 2016 and holds a master's degree in Education from Hong Kong University.
