-
Details
Through this lecture, we will discover the evolution of U.S. immigration laws since the landmark 1965 Immigration and Nationality Act, with a special focus on pathways often used by African and Middle Eastern migrants — including the Refugee Admissions Program and the Diversity Visa Lottery.
The lecture will also explore pressing challenges faced under the current administration.
Our speaker, Zefitret (Zefi) Abera Molla, is a doctoral researcher in Political Science at Freie Universität Berlin. She has worked at El Colegio de México and the University of Nairobi, conducted fieldwork with Afro-Mexican communities and Black migrants in Mexico, and previously worked on immigration policy in Washington, DC. CMRS Director Ibrahim Awad will chair this discussion.
