The Sheikh Hassan Abbas Sharbatly Department of Arab and Islamic Civilizations invites you to an exhibition on the Cairene neighborhood of Sayyida Zainab.

Unearthing a treasure trove of historic photographs, maps, postcards, newspapers, magazines, etc., this exhibition explores the urban evolution and politics of Sayyida Zainab, from the 9th century until the present day. It features more than 50 monuments in an attempt to reimagine their past and envision their future.

A series of lectures 

Day 1: July 14 (in Arabic)
  • 5.00 pm:  Opening Reception and Exhibition Tour - Future Gallery
  • 6.00 - 8.30 pm: Roundtable Discussion- Oriental Hall. 
Introduction: Hoda El Saadi of AUC, Zeinab Abul-Magd of Oberlin College.
Distinguished Speakers: Pascale Ghazaleh, May al-Ibrashy, Dalia Wahdan, Dalila ElKerdany, Dina Hussein, Amira Abou-Taleb, Architect Ahmed Mansour. 

Day 2: July 15 (in Arabic) Lectures- Oriental Hall
4.00 - 5.00 pm: “Repatriating Cultural Identity: ISIS, Virgin Mary & Sayyida Zainab” by Monica Hanna
5.15 - 6.15 pm: “Sayyida in City’s Memory -Dhakirat Madina” by Amr Abd al-Al and Haydi Shalabi, National Organization for Urban Harmony:
6.30 - 8.00 pm: “Mapping Cairo, Mapping Sayyida” by Shehab Ismail (al-Madaq)
