Join us for an insightful discussion featuring guest speaker Sherri McFarland and moderated by Yasmeen El-Ghazaly, Assistant to the CASAR Director and Adjunct Faculty, as they discuss over two decades of research experience on African and Middle Eastern North African (MENA) countries, with particular focus on Egypt, Sudan, Somalia and other culturally connected nations. With a passion for understanding the social, economic and political dynamics of these regions, McFarland will explore issues of sustainable development, international security and peace education.
Currently conducting independent research at the American University in Cairo, McFarland focuses on the challenges faced by Sudanese and other refugee communities in Egypt, with a special interest in religion, ethnicity and female agency across Africa and the Middle East.
