In commemoration of the 1948 Nakba, and as the Palestinians currently face a new one in Gaza, Alternative Policy Solutions at The American University in Cairo is hosting Fadwa Al-Barghouthi, a prominent lawyer and human rights activist, in a public talk entitled .”The Palestinian Nakba… The Battle of Resilience and Survival.”
This talk discusses the rise of the Palestinian national liberation movement in the wake of the 1948 Nakba and later the 1967 Naksa (Setback) and how it developed since then through the various milestones of the struggle. It also addresses how the issue of Palestinian prisoners as a political, national, and human rights cause is central to this struggle.

Fadwa Al-Barghouthi is a distinguished lawyer, human rights activist, and prominent figure in Palestinian politics. In 1999, she established her own law firm in Ramallah, where she has since served as a leading advocate for human rights and civil liberties.

She leads the international campaign for the release of her husband, Marwan Barghouti, a prominent politician and leader in the Palestinian National Liberation Movement detained since 2002. She is also the President of the Union of Women’s Committees for Social Work in Palestine.

The talk will be moderated by Rabab El Mahdi, Associate Professor of Political Science at The American University in Cairo and Director of Alternative Policy Solutions (APS).
