This spring, the SOAN Department is proud to launch the inaugural lecture of our Conversation Series, which is dedicated to the critical exploration of labor studies in memory of Giulio Regeni and Waad Ramadan. We are honored to present "Global Labor History and the Emergence of Rural Wage Labor in Late Nineteenth Century Egypt," featuring distinguished scholar Amr Khairy Ahmed from the Human Ecology Division at Lund University.

Join us for an enlightening journey through the annals of labor history, focusing on a transformative period in Egypt. Understanding the genesis and evolution of rural wage labor in the late 1800s illuminates a pivotal moment in Egyptian social history and contributes to our global comprehension of labor dynamics.

This event is an essential opportunity for scholars, students, and anyone interested in the socio-economic forces that have shaped our world.
