Join us for an engaging public lecture with John Thabiti Willis, Associate Professor of African history at Carleton College in Northfield, Minnesota, USA, as he delves into a fascinating analysis of enslaved people's journeys from Zanzibar to British political agents in Bahrain, Muscat, and Sharjah during the period of the 1920s to the 1940s. Using geographical information systems (GIS), Willis sheds light on the intricate routes and experiences of these individuals, providing valuable insights into the historical context of this transcontinental movement.

Through the application of GIS technology, Willis explores the complex dynamics of the slave trade, uncovering the paths taken by enslaved people and the networks that facilitated their movement. By examining the geographical data and historical records, he aims to reconstruct the narratives of these individuals and understand the socio-political factors that influenced their journeys.
