Join Professor Reimer as he explores the US relations with Iran and how the prolongation of the "hostage crisis" was a major cause of Jimmy Carter's defeat in the 1980 presidential contest. There were revelations in the past year that show that this prolongation was the result of secret communications between the Reagan election team and the new Iranian government.

This event is part of the outreach and activity program by the Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Bin Abdulaziz Alsaud Center for American Studies and Research and AUC's School of Global Affairs and Public Policy (GAPP).

Michael Reimer is married to Marty Reimer, and they have three children and four grandchildren. He has taught history at AUC since 1990. He is currently teaching courses on U.S. relations with the countries of the Middle East, state and society in the modern Arab world, the history of Zionism and the Arab-Israeli conflict, and the quest of the historical Jesus. His most recent book is The First Zionist Congress: An Annotated Translation of the Proceedings (SUNY Press, 2019).
