The anticipated effects of climate change threaten several aspects of Egyptians' livelihood, including water availability, food security, and energy supply. Meanwhile, higher temperatures and faster evaporation rates are projected to raise the water requirements of key Egyptian crops. Egypt's large agricultural sector will likely be affected by a hotter, drier climate coupled with worsening water scarcity. This may weaken the country's ability to feed its growing population as well as negatively affect its export economy, of which agricultural products are a key component. Along those lines, Egypt has adopted an approach toward achieving sustainable development characterized by a high level of ambition, firm commitment, and dynamic innovation.

Despite challenges, Egypt was able to accommodate and set a solid foundation for sustainable development through strong public support, as well as regional and international cooperation. Egypt is determined to pave the way towards a sustainable future, as H.E. Abdel Fattah El-Sisi stated in the open session of COP 27 in Sharm El Sheikh last year "Now is the time for action and implementation. There is no room to retreat or use challenges as pretexts to satisfy that. Missing the opportunity means squandering the legacy of future generations, our children and grandchildren".

Along the same lines related to climate change and proactive, innovative actions to support incorporating sustainability, the first-of-its-kind Net Zero International Conference will bring together education institutes, government representatives, the private sector, financial institutes, and civil society to explore opportunities and debate challenges and transfer knowledge to help pave the way towards a Net Zero future.
