The American University in Cairo (AUC) Architecture Alumni Association is hosting “Architecture Leih? The Global- Local Dialogues,” featuring a series of talks by local and international leading architectures.
Keynote speaker Mariana Cabugueria, an architect and urban designer from Portugal, will deliver a talk titled: “The transition of the architect into the Metaverse.” She is a senior architectural designer at Zaha Hadid Architects and teaches at the Architectural Association DRL in London. Her research interests gravitate around parametric design, generative design, digital design and robotic fabrication.
Cabugueria was part of the design team of winning projects such as Navi Mumbai Airport, Western Sydney Airport, Chongqing Terminal 3b, Exhibition Centre in Beijing, and most recently, the Tower C in Shenzhen - the project that she will be developing till construction this year.
The moderator is Sherif Abdelmohsen, associate professor of digital media and design computing, associate chair of the Department of Architecture at AUC, director of the Robotic Fabrication Laboratory and president of the Arab Society for Computation in Architecture, Art, and Design.
Panelists are Ahmed El Antably, professor of design computation and digital heritage at the Arab Academy for Science, Technology & Maritime Transport; Khalid Radwan, architect and head of the planning and cost control section at Cube Consultants and Nada Yaakoub’ 22, an Egyptian architect, computational designer and a research and teaching assistant at AUC.
The event also features AUC Architecture Alumni, who will deliver talks on architecture in light of culture, development, sustainability, computation and entrepreneurship.
