How can we design and enable a healthy and caring campus environment that prioritizes and supports a shared understanding of holistic well-being for the entire AUC community?
As we are facing emerging post-pandemic challenges and a constantly evolving teaching and learning landscape at our workplace, The American University in Cairo’s (AUC) staff, faculty and students must come together to reimagine our future as a caring and hospitable community.
Economic uncertainty in Egypt and around the globe has contributed to a pressing concern around overall well-being and mental, physical, social, career, financial, and psychological health. People-centered solutions are significant to address and gain insight around, the complex interaction between the dimensions of our overall well-being. As a community, we can build a resilient and caring community of learners and educators in collaboration with the AUC Mental Health Task Force and the Center for Learning and Teaching (CLT) to tackle this issue.
Staff, faculty, and students are invited to co-create and ideate prototype solutions that will help the community develop an AUC-centric framework for consideration and implementation.
This year's Research and Creativity Convention’s (RCC) Design Thinking Community Challenge is offered by the CLT in partnership with RCC's community participants to explore a complex challenge through a human-centered lens led by a team of design thinking coaches at AUC.
Unlike traditional approaches, design thinking is a human-centered, innovative approach to problem-solving. It has been shown to enhance learning, build empathy and understanding, and promote innovation. This is done by emphasizing user-centeredness, integrated multidisciplinary team communication, cooperation, and idea exchange among interdisciplinary talents.
