There is growing awareness that Mangroves can effectively tackle the combined challenges of climate change, nature loss, and human well-being. The discussion will highlight the importance of Mangroves in Egypt to increase communities' resilience to climate change and the keys to Mangrove rehabilitation projects' success and sustainability, as well as identify the main barriers to designing and implementing these projects.

Fulbright Expert and Curtiss Distinguished Professor

Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA.

Dr. Kanwar is a C.F. Curtiss Distinguished Professor of Water Resources Engineering - highest academic distinction- bestowed by Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa, USA. He advised more than 60 graduate students, received more than 15 M USD in international grants, and has published more than 200 journal articles. Dr. Kanwar’s research, teaching, and outreach interests are in the broader areas of water resources, irrigation, drainage, ecology, climate change, sustainable development, and global water and food security. He has worked for various international organizations, including: The World Bank, UNDP, USAID, EU, NATO, and FAO; and his work has taken him across the globe, to more than 60 countries. His passion is to transform higher education and prepare students as globally competitive and responsible citizens of society.

Dr. Yasmine Abdel-Maksoud joined the American University in Cairo as the Senior Technical Manager for the Center of Applied Research on the Environment and Sustainability. She had her Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from the AUC. She is an Environmental Expert with more than 20 years of experience working across a wide range of sectors, including industry, energy, urban development, and sustainable development in environmental management systems, sustainability, water & wastewater treatment, solid waste management and climate change.
