University of York faculty member and Associate Dean Tom Cantrell will share his research on how actors approach playing real people. The lecture will explore differences between stage and screen performance and use interviews with celebrated actors to discover their work in rehearsal and private preparation. Based on two case studies, a documentary play and a BAFTA award-winning television drama-documentary, the lecture will explore the ethics of representation, the rehearsal processes of the actors, and the specific demands of playing a real person.
