Valérie Masson-Delmotte is co-chair of Working Group I of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) for the Sixth Assessment Cycle, and a Senior Scientist in France’s Laboratory of Climate and Environment Sciences (LSCE) of Institut Pierre Simon Laplace, at the University of Paris Saclay. Masson-Delmotte, trained in fluid physics, has an extensive research background on issues such as quantifying and understanding past climate and water cycle variability, climate information from ice cores, climate response to natural and
anthropogenic forcings, climate feedbacks, abrupt climate change, ice sheets and sea level. With 250 peer-review publications, she is one of the most highly cited scientists in the field of geosciences since 2014.
Zita Sebesvari
Deputy Director
United Nations University, Institute for Environment and Human Security
As of 1 January 2021, Zita Sebesvari assumed the role of Deputy Director of UNU Institute for Environment and Human Security (UNU-EHS). Concurrently, Sebesvari continues to head UNU-EHS academic section Environmental Vulnerability and Ecosystem Services (EVES). Sebesvari is an internationally recognized expert in the fields of social-ecological risk assessments, ecosystem-based disaster risk reduction (Eco-DRR), and ecosystem-based adaptation (EbA), with a focus on low-lying coastal areas, such as river deltas. An ecologist by training, Sebesvari holds a PhD (Dr. rer. nat.) in Environmental Science from the Carl von Ossietzky University in Oldenburg, Germany. Sebesvari is author or co-author
of around 70 publications, and served as a Lead Author of the IPCC Special Report on Ocean and the Cryosphere in a Changing Climate.
Youssef Nassef

Adaptation Division, UNFCCC, and chair, World Adaptation Science Programme
Youssef Nassef has led the adaptation workstreams under the UNFCCC since their inception. He possesses over 30 years of experience in diplomacy and international environmental policy, and is a seconded diplomat from the Egyptian Foreign Service. He holds a PhD in International Technology Policy and Management and a MALD in International Environmental Policy from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy, as well as an MA in Middle East Studies and a BSc in Computer Science and Physics from the American University in Cairo.
