Details

The Madalyn Lamont Award is an annual literary celebration in honor of Madalyn Lamont, former instructor at AUC, poet, and women’s rights advocate. 
Every year, the English and Comparative Literature department invites an influential woman to speak at the award ceremony. This year’s invitee is the renowned creative writer Nesma Youssef Idris.

Full-time and non-degree students may apply to be considered for the 2021- 2022 Madalyn Lamont Award in Creative Writing.

Creative Writer

A proud mother of three, an AUC Alumni, MA in comparative drama from the ECLT department. PhD. in feminist drama, Cairo University. Diploma of performative arts, Harvard University. A creative writer and freelance critic, and journalist. Won the Sawiris foundation literary award for her first short story collection, "Heads or Tales." Her play "Explosion" was shortlisted at the ministry of culture annual awards. Her latest novel "Harman" will be released this April. Currently, she's an AUC adjunct faculty teaching at the Theater and ECLT departments.
